Jack Reacher author Lee Child says Tom Cruise, who played Reacher is too old for action movies and should transition into becoming a character actor.
Jack Reacher author Lee Child states Tom Cruise is too old for action movies. The 57 year old actor is well known for his doing his own stunts often in a way that is boundary pushing. The most notable of these stunts have taken place in the Mission Impossible series. Cruise scaled the Dubai Burj Khalifa in Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol he dangled off the side of a plane in Mission Impossible Rogue Nation and drove a motorcycle through traffic in Mission: Impossible Fallout. All of these things and more cardio have contributed to Cruises seemingly ageless reputation.
A lot of fans and critics are probably wondering how much longer Cruise can keep this up the last Mission Impossible was a box office smash so naturally a 7th and 8th movie are in the works. With each movie and year Cruise seems to push the action envelope the stunts get bigger as the actor gets older. Top Gun Maverick is set to release next summer bringing Cruise back to a role he originally played when he was 24 years old. The creator of a role he played not too long ago Jack Reacher had something to say about Cruises eternal youth.
In an interview with The Sunday Times the author of the Jack Reacher series comprising of 24 novels Child spoke on the Jack Reacher adaptations. The first Jack Reacher film came out and 2012 receiving a warm commercial and critical response. The second film Jack Reacher Never Go Back performed poorly all around in 2016. While Cruise was down for another crack at the character on the big screen Child opted to reboot the franchise as a television series.
