"The Umbrella Academy": The director changed the script of the series due to the transition of Elliot Page

 Steve Blackman, director of "The Umbrella Academy", spoke with actor Elliot Page to write the script for the transition from Vanya to Viktor Hargreeves.Ellen 's transition to Elliot Page was also reflected in The Umbrella Academ , and so she went from Vanya to Viktor Hargreeves .

However, this is no coincidence, since the actor worked hand in hand with the director, after the artist revealed that he was transgender, a fact that led to the writing of a new  script ."Elliot had called me after the scripts were done and told me he was transitioning and obviously I wanted to be very supportive of him. Nobody (...) forced me to write it like that in the story, but I thought it was the right thing to do" Steve Blackman said.I got in touch with (LGBTQ media advocacy group) GLAAD, got in touch with a trans writer who wanted me to be my consultant, and together with Elliot, we talked about how we were going to do the story. We didn't want it to become the story of the show, so we had to find a balance between making that transition and at the same time doing it in a way that felt authentic , sensitive, real." .

The  Netflix series  is set in a universe where 43 women from around the world give birth simultaneously at 12:00 pm on October 1, 1989, despite the fact that none of them had shown any signs of pregnancy up to that point.Seven of those children are adopted by billionaire  Reginald Hargreeves and become a team of superheroes he calls The Umbrella Academy .Hargreeves gives the children numbers instead of names, but eventually their robot mother names them, Grace, after Luther, Diego, Allison, Klaus, Ben ,  Viktor  , and  Five .As he puts six of his children to fight crime, Reginald keeps Vanya out of her siblings' activities, as she supposedly has no powers of her own.
