New Amsterdam is the oldest public hospital in America. There is a unique rule here different from other hospitals whether the patients are suffering from Ebola inmates of a high security penitentiary or presidents of the United States everyone without exception is treated under the same roof the same. But as in most state funded public medical institutions in the world underfunding dramatically erodes the success of doctors efforts.
On Thursday October 6 from 9 p.m. Max Goodwin the new medical director at New Amsterdam, disrupts the so called normalcy of medical life here.
New Amsterdam is a multiple award winning series. It was awarded the Television Film Critics Association Award for Best Television Series in 2021 the 2020 CinEuphoria Award for Freedom of Expre The themes addressed in the series are extremely current and for the reality of the Romanian medical system starting from bureaucracy to underfunding, to insufficient staff to patients underappreciation of the medical act. Max, masterfully played by Ryan Eggold aims to annihilate bureaucracy and provide exceptional care. Not taking no for an answer Dr. Goodwin begins to dismantle the hospitals old habits and proves that he will stop at nothing to breathe new life into this understaffed underfunded underappreciated medical center.
The story of the series is real the character Max Goodwin is inspired by that of a doctor who defied the system in an old hospital and narrated the evolution of twelve of his patients fighting cancer himself. This doctor was a consultant for production.
