We're finally going to get answers after that major season-two cliff-hanger.
Sweet Magnolias is officially coming back for more margarita nights, drama, and romance, Netflix announced on Wednesday, May 4, 2022. The series—based on the popular novels by New York Times best-selling author Sherryl Woods–first premiered in May 2020 and quickly became the surprise hit of the summer. Season two premiered on February 4, 2022, and ended with a major cliff-hanger for the lives of everyone in Serenity. Now, three months later, we finally have confirmation that we'll get answers to whether Helen will accept Ryan's proposal (um, no, she’d better not), what will happen to Cal, and just who is out to get Dana Sue.
Netflix didn't offer many details about the renewal, other than that fan favorites JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott, and Heather Headley are set to reprise their roles, and Sheryl J. Anderson will return as showrunner and executive producer, along with Dan Paulson as executive producer. Check out the official announcement below:So what else is in store for the return of the beloved series? Here's your guide to everything we know. We'll update this post as more information becomes available.
Which cast members will be back?
So far, Netflix has officially announced the return of only Garcia Swisher, Headley and Elliott, but we expect the rest of the main cast to also be back (namely, Dion Johnstone, Justin Bruening, Chris Klein, Chris Medlin, Anneliese Judge, Logan Allen, Carson Rowland, Hunter Burke, Brandon Quinn, Jamie Lynn Spears, and many more). After all, there are a lot of characters to serve. What’s going to happen in season three?
Heather Headley (Helen) wrote on Instagram, “You had questions…we'll have answers.” Ain't that the truth! For one, will Helen get her wish and become a mother? Two, will she continue to explore her new romance with good friend Erik, or will the allure of a revisiting the past with Ryan be too loud to ignore?
Then there's Dana Sue and Ronnie. The former exes reunited, but trouble lies ahead thanks to a mystery woman, Kathy, who has it out for Dana Sue. And don't forget, when Miss Frances died, she left a lot of money to Dana Sue in her will, so what's that about? Might this Kathy woman have something to do with that?
