A quick moment in Thor Love and Thunder quietly debunked a huge theory about Namors MCU origin story in Black Panther  Wakanda Forever.

A scene in Thor Love and Thunder quietly debunked a theory about Namor being an MCU god. With the Sub Mariners live action debut finally within view, all sorts of theories have offered possible explanations on how Marvel plans to use him. Marketing for Black Panther Wakanda Forever has provided hints but the full picture has yet to be revealed.

In Marvel Comics Namor the Sub Mariner is the half-human king of Atlantis, an underwater civilization populated by blue skinned people. While the MCU is keeping certain elements of Namors backstory its become clear that Marvel has made significant changes to his character. Arguably the biggest is the fact that Namors kingdom is no longer Atlantis. Merchandise for the movie has confirmed that the MCUs Namor is from Talocan a place clearly based on Tlālōcān a paradise dimension occupied by gods in Aztec mythology. All indication point toward Atlantis being scrapped from Marvels MCU plans.

Marvels decision to use Talocan in place of Atlantis has naturally raised speculation that Namors people will be the MCUs interpretation of the Aztec gods. Leaning in this direction would be fitting especially since Marvel has already established that so many pantheons exist as real people in the MCU. However Thor: Love and Thunder proves that this would not be how Marvel explains its Namor changes. During the scene set in Omnipotence City Marvel showed a brief glimpse at what appeared to be an Aztec god and confirmed his identity in the credits. Judging by his green skin  this character has no connection to Namors race.
