 Fifty Shades of Gray  dominates the box office around the world. In the USA the erotic strip by Sam Taylor Johnson had a record start with revenues of 94.4 million dollars on  Presidents Day Weekend and in Germany too visitors flocked to the cinemas on the opening weekend to see the SM romance between Anastasia Dakota Johnson and Mr. Gray Jamie Dornan on the big screen.


The Hollywood Reporter now provides sales figures from other countries for the global phenomenon which  unsurprisingly  come up with further records. From a financial point of view it should not bother the makers that the theatrical release was banned in Malaysia  for example because  Fifty Shades production budget: $40 million has had the best opening of an R rated film of all time with grossing of $158 million in 58 markets.


In eleven countries the bestselling film adaptation whose novel was translated into 52 languages ​​and sold more than 100 million copies worldwide was also able to take the top position of the best start to date including Argentina Italy the Czech Republic Hungary Poland and the Ukraine. The 31 countries where  Fifty Shades of Gray managed a record start with a rating comparable to the R rating also include some conservative countries such as the Philippines and Morocco.
