The Mandalorian's Pedro Pascal stars in first look trailer for The Last of Us series

 HBO has released the first trailer for its video game adaptation The Last of Us starring The Mandalorians Pedro Pascal and Game of Thrones Bella Ramsey.The gripping new trailer for the highly anticipated series  which dropped yesterday  September 26 teases a terrifying and emotional ride.





The apocalyptic series based on the popular video game follows Pascals Joel and Ramseys Ellie as they escape a quarantine zone riddled with infected monsters and enemies of the human kind. Adding infected monsters into the mix the trailer showcases a brief encounter with one of the beasts as Pascals Joel holds a finger up to his lips to tell 14 year old Ellie to keep quiet.


Set to the soundtrack of Hank Williams Alone and Forsaken the trailer also gives us a glimpse of other stars of the series including Euphorias Storm Reid who appears on a carousel with Ellie.


Nick Offerman makes a brief appearance in the trailer at the top of a big hole with a shotgun but it the surprise appearance of Yellowjackets star Melanie Lynskey that is most noteworthy as she had previously kept the role a secret. Lynskey herself took to Twitter once the role had been revealed sharing the trailer along with a caption that read ​​Surprise. 


The official synopsis for the series, which takes place 20 years after the destruction of modern civilisation reads Joel a hardened survivor is hired to smuggle Ellie a 14 year old girl out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal  heartbreaking journey as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.


According to the trailer The Last of Us is set for release in 2023 though no exact date is given.
