Cobra Kai Creator Explains How Season 5 Ending Differs From Karate Kid

Cobra Kai co creator Hayden Schlossberg explains why the shows season 5 ending differed from so much of the rivalries that defined the franchise.

The co creator of Cobra Kai explains why the season 5 finale ended on a decidedly positive note differing from so much of the Karate Kid franchise. In its return to Netflix  season 5 of the popular spinoff had an impactful conclusion as protagonists put aside their myriad conflicts and united to bring down Terry Silver. While it could have been a temporary alliance in place just long enough to vanquish a villain, the camaraderie surprisingly is much more permanent.

Across the ten episodes of Cobra Kai season 5 old animosities are put to rest Miguel and Robby make peace after a big fight. Tory and Samantha reach a mutual understanding. And most surprising of all the rivalry that has defined the franchise  the one between Daniel and Johnny   seems to be truly over as they've become genuine friends. Given how much of Cobra Kai and the broader Karate Kid world has been fueled by characters that can not quite let go of their past its most recent installment signaled a definite change of pace.

In an interview with Deadline joined by fellow co creators Josh Heald and Jon Hurwitz Hayden Schlossberg addressed why Cobra Kai season 5 bid farewell on such an uncharacteristically uplifting note.
