Call the Midwife's Helen George's life offscreen: from Strictly Come Dancing split to rare pregnancy illness

 While the actress keeps much of her life low profile she has helped raise awareness about the rare pregnancy illness she suffered and the anxiety it induced.





It is impossible to think about BBCs Call the Midwife without Helen George. Her character Trixie the most glamourous nurse in Poplar has been an integral part of the show since its first season and very quickly became a fan favourite. Known for her 50s fringe and blue uniform nurse Franklin is well used to emergencies yet the 38 year old actress has a quieter life off camera. With her boyfriend and ex co star Jack Ashton George has two daughters Wren four and Lark  seven months. The couple met on the set of the BBC drama where they played partners and then exes before Ashton exited the show in series seven.


In 2020  the couple moved into a new home together and have since posted many photos of its interior. The actress is a fan of animal prints bright colours and vintage furniture.As a family they enjoy baking picnics and country walks with the TV midwife having a love of stately homes. The actress recently shared pictures of the two children while on holiday at a beach hotel called Moonfleet Manor with the caption Pampered overfed and thoroughly rejuvenated thank you  we had the best stay. You had me at crèche.


As a core part of a show about mothers and babies, the Birmingham born George has also been very open about her experience with pregnancy. During both her pregnancies she suffered from Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy  ICP which is a serious condition that affects the liver and digestion. When she had the condition George experienced severe itching and also had two premature births. For her second baby Lark the actress admitted she was full of anxiety about the birth and ended up having to undergo an emergency caesarean.


Call the Midwife ended up tackling this issue in the most recent series, leading George to make a detailed Instagram post about her experience she wrote In 2017 when I gave birth to our daughter Wren I was diagnosed with this condition. I knew there was a high chance that I would suffer again with my second pregnancy but I was under the most incredible specialists doctors midwives health worker at Guys and St Thomass .So I felt safe.
